Hospice Home Campaign

In 2001, Visiting Nurse opened its doors to the only free-standing hospice facility in northeast Indiana. Since then, Hospice Home has provided care and support for over 10,000 individuals ranging in age from 5 months to 103. The ripple of impact in our community from those over 10,000 individuals served is immense, as each family and friend of that loved one was supported by Visiting Nurse as well. If you have had a loved one cared for at Hospice Home, you may have experienced the extended love and care that the Visiting Nurse team provided to your entire family.

Hospice Home is a 14-bed hospice inpatient facility that has a much different feel from a hospital or any other healthcare setting. It has family gathering areas set up much like a living room in someone’s home, a kitchen, sunroom, chapel-like reflection room and family conference areas as well. Individuals come to Hospice Home through several different paths. Often, if a patient is at a hospital and it is determined that they would benefit from 24-hour care by hospice professionals to help manage symptoms and provide comfort, they are transported to Hospice Home. A patient may already be on Visiting Nurse’s hospice service at home and go into a symptom-crisis situation. When this occurs, the patient is then transferred to Hospice Home so that our team of hospice experts can support the patient and the family.

In 20 years, like any home, Hospice Home has experienced some wear and tear. We are taking the opportunity to celebrate the anniversary of this community gem and raising funding to renovate and restore the building so we can continue to provide excellent care for the next 20 years and beyond. In 20 years, a facility like Hospice Home experiences wear and tear. We are taking the opportunity to celebrate the anniversary of this community gem and raise funding to renovate and restore the building so we can continue for the next 20 years. Some of the items that need to be updated include windows, roof and flooring. We also hope to renovate the nurse’s station to make layout of the space more efficient and welcoming to family members. In addition, our plan is to refresh each patient room with new paint and replace the furniture that family members use when they visit their loved ones. The total amount we hope to raise for this initiative is $750,000.
